Is Candace Conti baptized as a JW or has she ever been? If so what is her present standing in her congregation-if you can comment?
The reason why I ask is because of the way that J. R. Brown refers to Candace in the statement released on the JW Media Web Site. I'm disturbed by how he in an impersonal and insensitive way speaks of her as 'a woman', 'she', 'the plaintiff' and 'this young lady' and never mentioning her by name.

30 minutes ago i just got off the phone with some important players in this case, and some things were relayed to me concerning a lot of details of the outcome of the last two days of court.
i am passing this on.
cynthia hampton, one of the main players in the candace conti case (and a close friend of 28 years), just informed me of a further, far more powerful move by the state of california against the watch tower bible and tract society of new york, inc.. by order of the superior court of the state of california - county of alameda (see documents below), until the watch tower's appeal, which won't begin until august 13th and will take up to two years to settle due to due process of law, has forbidden the watch tower to sell any more of its $1 billion in assets in the borough of brooklyn until the appeals case is finished, to assure they won't shelter their monies in the light of this most huge and devastating sexual abuse scandal ever to hit the watch tower society, and perhaps any other single-victim lawsuit.

i've already received enquiries from those interested in hiring a lawyer to pursue their own child abuse claims in the wake of the candace conti verdict.
obviously, rick simons has excelled in his handling of the case, but i'm sure it wouldn't be practical for him to represent each-and-every potential client who are victims of child abuse.
i am thinking particularly of victims of molesters in the uk, where i am from.. i have no legal experience, and i am not personally acquianted with any lawyers specializing in this field.

i attended a recent ministerial servant k m school on the east coast and the main school instructor mentioned among other things (part entitled: 'objective of the km school course') that the total number of ministerial servants is seriously less than it should be.
in times past the ratio of m ss to elders was much more than it is today.. in the u.s. apparently the total number of elders is 88,500+ as opposed to m ss 65,000. the numbers show & numbers don't lie: the society is running out of spiritual men.
the instructor stated that this is a new downward trend that has (in so many words) the society worried.. the next speaker (part entitled: 'why we must be spiritual men') added that in his years as a traveling servant the pool of m ss has always been much, much larger than it is today.
Elder training schools (not for MSs) are scheduled to start in November 2012 thru mid Jan 2013 and you can bet they'll be hitting hard recent court cases involving child abuse.
It is anyone's guess how many elders are considering stepping 'down', 'up', 'out' or 'over' due to recent child abuse case rulings?
One thing is for certain many, many an elder is looking into 'Clergy Malpractice Insurance' if there is such an animal!
i've been giving some thought to the recent development in which the judge has ruled that the society is barred from completing any property transactions until the appeal is over, which could take up to two years or even more.. i've submitted an article to randy at freeminds in which i basically argue that it is no longer in the society's interests to appeal this case.
if i correctly understand the restrictions placed on the society by the judge, then the governing body has far more to lose by appealing than they could conceivably gain.. think about it.... by appealing, they buy themselves time in which to formulate a long-term strategy for dealing with the fallout of this case, but will be barred from liquidating $1 billion in property assets at a time of global economic uncertainty when their donations are dwindling.
there is also no guarantee that their appeal will be upheld.by dropping their appeal, they take a hit and pay $23.8 million but retain the freedom to see through their real estate projects; retain their financial flexibility to respond to dwindling donations, and get to pretend to their followers (as with the un scandal) that it never happened.of course, i am only saying that dropping the appeal would be the only intelligent option for the society, assuming they are aware of how legally precarious their child abuse policies are.

i see that the watchtower made an official statement on their web site.. will they make an official statement at kingdom halls to the r&f to downplay the verdict?.

no doubt, wtbts ny will appeal this to the best of their ability, and they have almost unlimited financial resources behind them.. i wish i was in a position to fund candace through the appeal, but i'm not, nor i am cognisant with california law or the general fedaral law in us.. but i was a police officer in the uk for 30 years, 10 of that as a commander of a fraud squad, member of the national working group on fraud, europol, etc.
i did spend some time in the us working with fbi on a joint case.. my point is this.
i've read through some of the court papers including depositions and the one that stuck in my mind was the dep taken from the witness who worked in bethel and was asked about 'collated data' re child abusers.
truth_be_known here is a question for you. Many of us know that a JW rank and file member who has been judged and d’fd by a JC also has an opportunity to appeal a d'fing decision. With the kangaroo court system that the JW judicial process is, we also know that most appeals do not work for the benefit of the accused and that the elders’ initial decision to disfellowship is almost always upheld.
I know we’re talking about an entirely different and more professional judicial process here involving Candace Conti vs WT. In your experience, are there any percentages out there that reflect how most appeals turn out in the state of California? In other words are there any percentages out there to show that the appeal will go one way or the other?
